The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency (Yakima Clean Air) is the primary agency responsible for regulating air pollution from stationary sources in Yakima County. Yakima Clean Air enforces regulations on open burning, pollution released from industrial and commercial sources, woodstoves, asbestos removal and dust. The agency registers and inspects more than 350 commercial and industrial facilities located throughout the incorporated and unincorporated areas of Yakima County.
Businesses and industries have reduced air pollution by using improved control technology, thereby contributing to the area’s significant air quality improvements. The Yakima area has been in compliance with national clean air standards since 1997 and in 2005, the “nonattainment” status was officially changed to “attainment” by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Yakima Clean Air’s regulations, policies and programs are designed to continue forward on this path in order to attain and maintain air quality standards today and for future generations, thereby protecting public health from air pollution. The agency has developed many partnerships with stakeholders and the regulated community as a whole, effecting greater progress toward clean air for the future.
If you are in business, chances are you deal with many public agencies. Yakima Clean Air’s Compliance Assistance Program (CAP) is designed to promote understanding of air quality regulations that pertain to business in order to increase compliance and reduce air contaminants.
Under the CAP, a series of information sheets and resource guides has been developed to help businesses prevent and control air pollution. In addition, Yakima Clean Air staff is available to provide businesses with one-on-one technical assistance. The publications and technical assistance also help businesses access additional information on pollution prevention techniques and products.
The CAP publications are available for downloading at by clicking on "For Bussiness" or, "For General Public" below.
